DIY Air Fresheners

Air fresheners can be a great Christmas gift idea for friends and family members who love to keep their home or car smelling fresh. There are lots of ways to make your own air fresheners, and the best part is you can customize them with different scents or colors. Here is our way of making them, inspired by this WikiHow article:

You will need fabric, cardboard, superglue, essential oils, scissors (or a razor blade), multi-colored permanent markers, a hole puncher, and ribbon or string.

First, you will draw pictures or shapes on the fabric, then cut out the shape. You will want to cut out that identical shape twice, so you have two copies of it. Next, lie the shape over a piece of cardboard, and cut the shape out of the cardboard. The two pieces of fabric will get sandwiched over the cardboard. (Without the cardboard, your air freshener will be flimsy!). Glue each piece of fabric onto opposite sides of the cardboard using superglue. Allow it to try. Then add 10-20 drops of an essential oil of your choice to each piece of fabric. Be sparing, as the smell can be overwhelming at first! The last step is to punch a hole into your air freshener, loop the ribbon or string through it, and voila! You’e got a DIY homemade air freshener. If you want to take it one step further, you could enclose each freshener inside a piece of plastic. Happy holidays!
