Who is Ross David?

Internet radio is good for many things: procrastinating from homework, ads that have no relevance to your life whatsoever, and discovering amazing musical talent. The latter is what introduced me to the soul man that is Ross David, but who is Ross David? I’m guessing you haven’t heard of him before so I’m here to enlighten you about his amazing music.

If you’re not familiar with this name, it’s okay. Neither was I until I heard his original song “When I’m With You” on the radio. Have a listen here, I’ll wait.

AMAZING right?  With a vocal tone reminiscent of John Mayer paired with stellar song writing abilities, it’s difficult to understand how this artist has not yet broken into the mainstream. According to his official Facebook page, David caught the ear of well known producer Jay Ollero who would become his mentor and guide. This led to Matt Hennessy, well known producer, audio engineer, and president of the Grammy Chapter of Chicago, to discovering David’s abilities and joining the two in recording the original songs that would later become three EPs with a fourth being released in early 2014.

David’s pop sound has an undeniable soulful quality that distinguishes his music from the cookie-cutter top 40 hits you’ll hear on the radio. With influences like Stevie Wonder, John Mayer, and John Legend, this was bound to happen. If you browse his YouTube channel you’ll find dozens of covers and original songs that are just as fabulous as “When I’m With You” including his latest original song “Fire Burnin’”.

Now that you’re hooked, look for more Ross David original recordings on iTunes, Amazon, Pandora, and Spotify.

Social Media 101

Almost everyone in America is active on some sort of social media site these day, whether it’s updating statuses on Facebook, following celebrities on Twitter, or uploading videos on YouTube.

People interact with each other and companies via social media all the time now from everywhere…you can’t escape the world of social media!

In August 2010, Facebook topped Google to become the top online destination. Facebook users, on average, spend about 30 minutes on Facebook per each visit. Americans as a whole spent 41.1 million minutes on Facebook in August 2010 (compared to 39.8 million spent on Google).

Twitter released a statement last month reporting that they now have over 200 million active accounts, pretty impressive for a company that’s only 3 years old! The average number of tweets sent per day is 140 million, but it varies according to big events. For instance, on March 11, the day of the Japan earthquake and tsunami, over 177 million tweets were sent in a single day!

Now for some info on everyone’s favorite viral video site, YouTube. The most popular YouTube video to date, Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” has been played 185.39 million times! The site itself exceeds over 2 billion views a day.

That’s a lot of impressive statistics, and those are just the 3 most popular social media sites! Other sites like Reddit, Digg, Yahoo Buzz, and Fark are gaining popularity as well, but new social networking sites pop up each and every day. So what do you think? Which social networking sites are your favorite? How do YOU use social media?

I’ll leave you with an interesting video on the power of the social media revolution:

Intern Pick: Favorite Funny YouTube Videos

When I am having a long day or attempting to kill time I can count on YouTube to keep me entertained. Here are a few of the funny videos I like to watch when I am on YouTube:

The rolled down window and hair blowing in the wind adds a nice touch. So does the barking dog in the background! #classic

He definitely knows all the words, and his dance moves really enhance the song! #remix

This video falls under the “You don’t want to look, but can’t look away” category. Keep going? I would go right to the hospital! #OUCH

I love how the camera keeps rolling after she has fallen to the ground. #NoteToSelf Never stomp grapes, PERIOD

Favorite part: when David turns into a screaming monster, or when his father agrees to having four eyes. #LOL

Someone obviously missed their nap. Don’t worry dad, you are not a horrible father, but common, you shut him down too fast! #rude

Poor kitty kitty #EpicFail. The slow motion really enhances the video, though.

Am I missing out on any hilarious videos? Let me know
