School’s out, it’s hot and you’re free. Wondering what to do with your summer? This is a bucket list of ideas for summer of 2015.

The Fair/ an Amusement Park

bucket list - AmusementPark

Throughout the summer a lot of towns have county and state fairs and most states have at least one amusement park. Either one would be a good opportunity to have a large group of friends go and enjoy. Ride rides, see entertainers and enjoy the company!

A Marathon

bucket list - marathon

Marathons are great for getting exercise and sometimes helping a cause. Aside from this, you could have a group of people go with you, friends or family. The good news is you don’t necessarily have to run or at least not run the whole way, you can walk.  If a marathon is too much, look into a local 5K.

A Concert

bucket list - concert

It’s summer and you’re young. What better way to enjoy your time than to go to a concert or a music festival. We’ve all got favorite bands or artists, so see if they’re touring this summer. Or just go to a festival to discover new music. Go with a group and enjoy the music. Lollapalooza is in late July and early august, this festival has a very diverse group of artists and bands. Vans Warped Tour is a travelling festival that goes through the summer, its includes a more underground group of artists and bands.

Art/ Museum

bucket list - art

Experience a little culture this summer and visit a museum, or an art gallery. In the summer a lot of places have art walks that you could participate in and see local art. A museum would give a little history, a little culture. Many places have either or both of these.  If you’ve already seen the local ones, you could travel and enjoy a day trip. A museum would be a good way to hang out with family or friends. An art walk or art showing would be a great first date idea.

Water!

bucket list - water

We know it’s hot, trust me, we know. Take a day trip, a weekend, a week, a month even, and go enjoy some water. Whether its the beach, a lake, or even just the pool in the backyard. Hanging out in the water is great for cooling off while still enjoying the heat. This would be a great way to spend some time with your family and catch up. Or grab some friends and relax. Or even just go hang out by yourself and read a book!

These are a couple of ideas to try out this summer. Enjoy your summer while it lasts!

Dating Someone Immature vs. Mature

facebooktwittergoogle_pluspinteresttumblr

Finding someone who you are compatible with is hard enough, but in today’s society it is often more important to find someone who is closer in emotional age rather than physical years. When analyzing someone’s age, many people focus purely on physical age. However, physical years are often not as important as the emotional age of a person. It is important to be able to differentiate between dating someone who is immature vs. mature. Simply reaching the age of 18 does not make you an adult. Rather, it is the way one carries themselves and how they interact with others that shows maturity. As far as dating and relationships are concerned, there are a couple major differences, which help to separate someone who is immature vs. mature.

Knowing How and When to Say Sorry

immature vs. mature - sorry

It is human nature to make mistakes and to be wrong. In a healthy relationship, it is of vital importance to know when you have messed up or done something wrong and to apologize or make amends for it. Mature individuals have the ability to understand when they have done something that has affected their partner negatively. They also have the capability to not only understand what they have done wrong, but apologize in a sincere and meaningful way. Saying “I’m sorry” and really meaning it is instrumental in fixing and maintaining a strong adult relationship. In contrast, immature individuals struggle to understand when they have done something wrong to upset their significant other.  And even if they do realize, they often fail to make proper amends for it.  Their cognition of what the problem may be is often weaker and thus they do not understand the proper way to fix the issue at hand.

Selfishness vs Selflessness

immature vs. mature - couple

Since the beginning of mankind, humans have struggled with the battle of selfishness versus selflessness. It is important to have some of each, as one with complete selflessness often sacrifices their own happiness to please others, whereas one with complete selfishness cannot find a connection to someone else’s happiness.  The main difference between immature individuals and mature individuals is that mature individuals fall more towards the selflessness end of the spectrum. Whereas immature individuals often put themselves first and seek their own happiness, mature individuals are able to derive happiness from the joy of others. Although not always, the ability to make someone else happy helps to fulfill mature individuals needs and enhances interconnectedness. Furthermore, a mature individual is often willing to go out of their way in order to make their partner happy.  This lies in sharp contrast to immature individuals, who often act selfishly to fulfill their own needs.

Comfort with Oneself

immature vs. mature - oneself

No matter what anyone says, deep down everyone has insecurities. Whether it be about appearance, abilities, or any other subject, everyone has something about themselves that they do not like.  Immature and mature individuals alike find fault with themselves. However, it is how they perceive their own faults and the degree to which they see them that separates them.  Part of growing up is learning what you excel at, and what you struggle with. It is about learning how to leverage your strengths and strengthen your weaknesses. Immature individuals are prone to focusing on their weaknesses whereas mature individuals slowly work on their weaknesses and focus on what makes them great rather than what they lack.  Body image is one major component of comfortability with oneself. Immature individuals stress a great deal about what others think of their appearance and will stress and work endlessly to improve themselves in the eyes of their partners or others.  Mature individuals also may struggle with body image but they are usually more concerned with how they see themselves rather than how others do. Whereas immature individuals change and work to improve themselves for others, mature individuals do it to improve their self-image and how they feel about themselves.

Commitment Issues

immature vs. mature - committment

Not everyone is looking for a long term relationship and that is perfectly fine. However, at some point in an adult relationship, the topic of commitment is going to be broached. When it is, it is very easy to see how someone can be oriented as immature or mature. Just because someone is a grown up, does not mean that they are looking for a commitment and are ready to make one.  Sometimes it just isn’t what they are looking for at the time, and sometimes it just doesn’t make sense with the specific person. However, the way that the topic is handled can easily identify whether someone is immature or mature. When the topic is brought up, a mature individual will be straightforward with their intentions and will speak their feelings and thoughts. In contrast, an immature indiviudal will often mask their true meanings or simply flee. Either they will be scared off and attempt to escape from the relationship or from the conversation, or they will answer in a non-specific way that doesn’t really answer the question.  Immature individuals are also much more likely to give a non-definitive answer and to try and bypass the question. Whereas mature individuals tend to be straightforward and think about the topic, immature individuals may hide their true intentions and feelings. Commitment is a future-based decision that often counters childlike selfishness. As stated previously, immature individuals have a higher focus on their own happiness and thus often avoid future-based decisions and focus on enhancing their own happiness in the present.

Although these four differences do not always come together, they are each in their own way a strong indicator when deducing whether one is dating some immature or mature. There are many other factors that help to differentiate these two groups, and it is important to not just pinpoint these reasons as sole differentiators. It is important to seek out someone with a like mindset to your own. For those people who may still be immature themselves, it is advisable to seek out somebody who mirrors your needs and wants. If you are looking for an adult relationship and see yourself in this mindset, it is important to find someone who you can designate as a mature individual and who values your happiness as much if not more as their own.

80’s Movies That Should Not Be Remade

facebooktwittergoogle_pluspinteresttumblr

Lots of movies are being remade, or rethought; whether the remakes are pale in comparison or surpass the special effects, there are some classic movies that should never be remade in my opinion. This is a list of 80’s movies that should not remade. If you have not seen any of these movies you should definitely add them to your rainy day movie list!

The Breakfast Club

80's movies
This is one of those movies that you watch, and you’re like wow, that was pretty cool. It’s not about saving the world, and there isn’t explosions but a group of teens locked in a library for a Saturday is still pretty cool. The movie has teens interacting from different social groups, and having fun. A great movie to watch if you’re with friends or having a movie date.

Back To The Future

All three of these movies are brilliant. A crazy scientist, a teen, and time travel. What else could you ask for? They find time travel, and Marty travels back in time to save Doc, and along the way he meets his teenage parents and tries to help them out too. A great movie if you want to laugh.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

80's movies
If you haven’t seen this movie, you’re seriously missing out. Ferris skips school and paints the town red. He takes his girlfriend and his best friend with him, all while trying to escape the principle and Ferris’ sister. Seriously, watch this movie, it will cheer you up even if you’re crying and haven’t left the house in three days.

Drop a comment below and tell me your opinions on these picks and which 80’s movies you think are so awesome they should not be remade.

8 Reasons to Run Outside

facebooktwittergoogle_pluspinteresttumblr

For many, running is one of the greatest pleasures in life. As children we learned to run by chasing our friends, playing sports, or running after pets. We ran because we could and because we wanted to, not simply because we needed to stay in shape. For some people this is still true, but for others reasons may be different. Whatever the reason you have for running, it is a great one. Running is one of the simplest forms of exercise, yet is also one of the best for you. Besides the obvious health effects that you can get from running, there are many other lucrative reasons why people should run, and run more! My personal preference is running outside.  Here are 8 reasons to run outside:

1. Change of Scenery

reasons to run 1

If you, like me, aren’t a fan of running laps around a track, running outside may be your best option. Running outdoors gives you the chance to see things that you have never seen and take in views. It can make running much more enjoyable when you are able to run through nice and interesting areas, thus making what may initially be viewed as pure exercise a little more fun. Running outside also brings the added benefit of exposure to sunlight, which when managed correctly (wear appropriate sun protection) can bring lots of added health benefits such as increased Vitamin D!

2. Save Money

reasons to run 2

Besides saving you trips to the doctor by improving your health and decreasing the risk of disease, running can help to save you valuable cash. Gym memberships can be very expensive, whereas running outside is a very inexpensive thing to do. Running only requires a pair of shoes which you would have needed to go the gym anyways!

3. Do it Anywhere

reasons to run 3

One of the great advantages of running is that it can be done anywhere. All you need is land, which unless you live on a boat is all around you! Sometimes you don’t have the time to commit to driving to and from the gym along with the allotted time for your exercise. Running can easily be done in very small intervals, allowing for the maximization of your time. The ability to get up and go also is a bonus for people who may not have the motivation to get up and get to the gym. Simply having to put on clothes and shoes is much easier to do!

4. Improve your Brain and Body

reasons to run 4

Studies have shown that regular exercise can boost the circulation and flow of nutrients and oxygen to the brain.  People who get out and run tend to have lower levels of stress, and thus have decreased risk of diabetes, heart attack, and other ailments. Running also lowers high blood pressure, making runners healthier overall than those who do not run. Cardiovascular disease is much lower in people who exercise regularly

5. Sleep Better

reasons to run 5

For those who may have trouble sleeping, running can be a great cure. Running helps to reduce stress and anxiety, thus making falling asleep easier. Your body heat is also raised during a run, and when it drops down to normal post-run, this can make you tired which makes it easier to sleep. Many runners enjoy running at night or before they go to sleep, as an obvious effect of running is tiredness post-run.

6. Enjoy Others Company

reasons to run 6

One great advantage of running is that it can easily be done with a buddy. Running with friends is an easier way to get motivated to get up and go and can also improve your relationships. Exercising with someone else puts you both in a place where you may be healthier and have less stress. Less stress leads to an overall happier mood.  Running can also promote unity as setting running goals together or accomplishing benchmarks as a team can be a great feeling that can be shared.

7. Increase Stamina

reasons to run 7

Running is also great because it allows you to increase your stamina. This will allow you to go further in subsequent runs and also will improve other aspects of your life. Other workouts at the gym or other places will be more bearable and you will be able to do more in your day without getting as tired. Although boosting your endurance and stamina can be difficult at first, the advantages of doing so are well worth the effort!

8. Give Yourself Time To Think

reasons to run 8

Although it may not be the first thing that pops to mind when you think of the advantages of running, the ability to think and be alone with ones thoughts is one of the greatest advantages that running outdoors has. Personally, I love being able to go on a long run as it gives me the chance to disconnect from the world and just be alone with my thoughts. Running past beautiful scenery and through interesting areas, you can easily forget all issues and think about what you want.

I hope that all of these reasons to run outside will inspire you to get there this summer and run!

Keep a Normal Sleep Schedule

First off, you might be on your own, but remember when your parents made you go to bed around the same time every night? It helps: a normal sleep schedule reduces that morning crankiness we know you have and sleep helps keep your body healthy (a.k.a. helping you keep off the dreaded freshmen fifteen).

Keep the Peace with Your Roommate

how to survive college 2

Do not be rude to your dorm mate, no matter how angry they make you.  Remember, they know where you sleep. Communication is key when living with another person.  If you are open and honest about what you expect from them and they are the same way with you, you are setting yourself up for success.

Keep in Touch with Your Family

how to survive college 3

Your family is missing you more than you are missing them.  Family is always around even when college ends. And no, I do not just mean your parents, keep in touch with friends you consider family too! Some easy ways to keep in touch include calling texting and face-timing.

Keep Eating Healthy

Do not eat all the junk food you were not allowed to eat at home, where do you think the dreaded freshmen fifteen comes from? Having healthy high-protein snacks throughout the day such as nuts can fight cravings. College can also make you want to stress eat.  If you are looking for something to do with your hands while you are studying, eat grapes, blackberries, carrots, etc. Fruits and vegetables help keep your body healthy and you feeling better.

Keep Making Time for Yourself

how to survive college 5

If you need to tell your friends you are taking an extra class to get away for a bit, do it and just relax! What was something you did before life got hectic and you did not have time? Do it for at least an hour a week, every week. Do not skip!

Keep Enjoying College

how to survive 6
