HOW TO: Search For An Internship!

1-15 Internship1

In order to land that amazingly incredible summer internship, you have to start looking for them. But, where should you start looking? Try these sites you probably visit fairly often anyway:

1-15 Internship2

After you have completed your profile, use the search box to search for internships or companies that you’d like to work for. Search combinations of your area of interest and the term “intern,” because you are searching through job positions. For example, if you are a communications major from L.A., you can search “PR intern” or “Communication intern.” Once you have started your search, there is a sidebar where you can input your location information. Also, be sure you are searching under jobs and not people or organizations.

1-15 Internship3

Search for, and start following, accounts that post jobs having to do with your major. These accounts post all sorts of positions from all over- so keep your eye on these. Following these accounts will likely become useful later on (i.e. after college) as well. Search for a combination of your major or area of interest and the word “job(s).” Also make sure to follow your college, school, and career centers’ twitter accounts.  They may have helpful information and internship notifications!

YourSchool.edu

1-15 Internship4
Most universities have websites specifically designed to help students and alumni find internships and jobs. Check out your school’s website again and look for a “Career Center” page or an “Internship Finder” page. Then plug in your major and voila!

Other great sites to try are Internships.com and InternMatch.com!

Good luck on your internship hunt!

President Obama Proposes Free Community College

President Obama announced his proposal for community college to be free for two years for responsible students. “Higher education should not be a Democratic or Republican issue. It’s an American issue,” Obama said. If the plan becomes fully implemented in the future, full-time community college students would save an average of $3,800 per year. Students would be eligible for free tuition if they attend the community college at least half-time, maintain a 2.5 GPA, and make progress toward their degree, according to White House officials. Obama’s proposal could benefit up about 9 million students across the nation, each year. The federal government would cover three-quarters of the average cost of community college and participating states would be expected to contribute the rest. “Students who started at community college during those two years and then go on to a four year institution, they essentially get half of their bachelors degree free,” Obama said, “It can be a game changer.” The White House stated that this plan would cost $60 billion over a span of 10 years. President Obama pitched his plan during his speech at Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville, Tenn.

New Year, 7 New Semester Resolutions!

facebooktwittergoogle_pluspinteresttumblr

Want to get more out of your next semester? Here are a few resolutions that will help you visualize your goals:

1. Eat Healthy- Keep dried fruit and granola around your dorm for a healthy snack option, instead of grabbing the twizzlers, chocolate and ice cream at the diner/library.

2. Sleep Better- Reduce your caffeine intake, especially in the afternoon and evening. Instead of grabbing a coffee to keep you up to finish that paper due at 8 AM tomorrow, take a walk around the dorm, library or campus.

3. Stay Active- Download an app that tracks your steps or how many minutes you are active to see how much you move. Set reasonable goals and achieve!

4. Get Better Grades- Stick with your assignment notebook and keep track of your notes. Set TV limits for the semester to keep procrastination at a minimum.

5. Spend More Time With Campus Friends- Start or join a club that your friends are involved in. It will give you a weekly excuse to see them and spend time with them.

6. Be More Organized- Spend a while over winter break reorganizing your computer files so your documents folder won’t be so cluttered. Also, get in the habit of making your bed, so that your dorm room looks tidier too!

7. Keep In Touch With Distant Friends- Plan to call your friend on a regular basis. Even if its just a five minute phone call, it will mean much more than a text or facebook message- but don’t shy away from those either! It’s always nice to see an old friend pop up.

This is a great buy since you get two products in one.  You get a great blush and a great bronzer.  The bronzer is great for contouring as well as all-over use to add a nice tan, glow.  The e.l.f. duo also makes a pretty good dupe for the Nars Blush & Bronzer duo!  The e.l.f. duo retails for $3.00 at Target, while the Nars duo retails for $42.00 at Sephora.

8. Olay Fresh Effects Dew Over Hydrating Gel Moisturizer

This Olay moisturizer is great for everyday use.  Moisturizing the skin is very important for your skin’s health and is a far-too-often forgotten part of the skin-care routine for many of us.  Don’t leave out this terribly important step!  One tub lasts for several months, so it is worth every penny.  It retails for $12.99 at Target.
